A Powerful First Shoreline Cleanup of 2025!

On Sunday, June 8th, BCMF Conservation hosted its first Shoreline Cleanup of 2025 at Neck Point Park in Nanaimo for World Oceans Day.

While the beach looked inviting and clean, participants still uncovered surprising debris; someone even brought in part of an old boat! BCMF extends a heartfelt thank you to the Canadian Ocean Literacy Coalition for their funding support that made this event possible.

BCMF also extends gratitude to Mauricea Penchenko, BC Métis Federation member and fourth-year Indigenous/Xwulmuxw Studies student at Vancouver Island University. Mauricea facilitated a powerful Indigenous-led discussion that deepened participants’ connections to the ocean and land.
