In partnership with the T2D Network, the BC Métis Federation is conducting a survey to better understand the impacts of type 2 diabetes within Métis communities and the experiences of Métis individuals  and families living with type 2 diabetes.

Why Are We Doing This Survey?

This survey asks about experiences, knowledge, and support related toType 2 Diabetes (T2D) in the Métis community. This survey aims to better understand what supports are needed and how programs can better reflect the needs and lived experiences of Métis community members. It is hoping that the findings of this survey will help guide future programs in the community.

What Does Participation Involve?

You are being invited to complete the survey as you identify as part of the Métis community. The first part of the survey will consist of a brief paper questionnaire and is expected to take about 10 minutes. The second part will be in the form of an oral group discussion and will take approximately 40 minutes. Your participation is voluntary. If there are questions you do not want to answer, you can skip them and move to the next question or you can stop completing the survey at any time. If you decide not to participate, there is no need to give a reason for your decision.

What Happens with Your Responses?

  • Your answers will be kept anonymous and confidential.
  • No names or identifying information will be collected, unless you choose to provide your contact details to be involved in future Métis resource development. Your contact information will be used only for follow-up related to Métis-focused diabetes resource development and will not be connected to any other responses you provide.
  • Audio will be recorded during the discussion portion of the survey to help us accurately gather community knowledge. These recordings will be used to generate transcripts of the discussion. Transcripts of the audio recordings will be analyzed to highlight community insights. These anonymized insights will be shared with health sector partners in reports and presentations to inform future programming.
  • All information will be securely stored, and any identifying information [if provided]will be accessed only by the Métis Federation and T2D Network project team.
  • Findings may be shared in reports, presentations, publications, or other formats, without identifying individuals, to share learnings and support future programming and community resources.

Risks and Benefits

There are no expected risks. While there may be no direct personal benefit, your input will help shape supports that better reflect Métis culture, values, and lived experiences.
