The Director, Manager, and a team of five dedicated Coastal Water Protectors recently participated in a transformative day-long tabletop exercise at Qanis Bay on November 15th, 2023. This strategic gathering brought, Canadian Coast Guard, local First Nations, the Canadian Army, Department of Fisheries and Oceans, Environment Canada, Western Canada Marine Response Corporation (WCMRC), and others, for a collaborative exploration of response strategies in the face of potential incidents.

Post-exercise, the team conducted a thorough debriefing session to analyze their performance, share insights, and identify areas for improvement. One notable outcome of this event is the initiation of plans to establish an ‘incident response team.’ Comprising of qualified and trained Coastal Water Protectors, this specialized team aims to enhance our ability to respond effectively to incidents or support ongoing response efforts.
