The BC Métis Federation is hosting a commemoration event on Louis Riel Day—Sunday, November 16. The event is being held at the BCMF office in Vancouver (390-3665 Kingsway) from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm.

A short video will be shown that discusses Riel’s life, illuminating how he and the Métis were much more involved in state-making than historians have previously acknowledged. It is from McMaster Humanities and features Dr. Max Hamon who authored “The Audacity of His Enterprise, Louis Riel and the Métis Nation That Canada Never Was, 1840–1875“.

The event will also provide a space for individuals to speak to their family connections to Louis Riel and to the legacy that his execution has had on Métis communities and families.

In the spirit of reconciliation, all are welcome.
