Vancouver, British Columbia, February 21, 2024 — BC Métis Federation (BCMF) is proud to celebrate the graduation of eight participants from the Spark Métis skills and employment program, a workforce essentials training program for Métis youth aged 19-30.
The eight graduates of this third intake of Spark Métis have all successfully found job placements and will now complete the practical portion of their training. Since its inception in 2023, Spark Métis has enabled participants to “earn while they learn,” receiving training and certifications, mentorship, and work experience. In addition to the job skills training, participants also learn about Métis culture.
“It’s impressive to see what incredible leaps and bounds these Métis and other Indigenous youth can make in such a short period of time,” said BCMF President Keith Henry. “They’re showing initiative and proving what a difference culturally appropriate workplace training can make. We’re looking forward to continuing more sessions of the program in the coming year!”
BC Métis Federation recognizes the financial support and investments from the Government of Canada through Employment and Social Development Canada (ESDC) for the Spark Métis project funding for 2023-24.
Applications for the next intake of Spark Métis are expected to open later this spring with the locations still to be confirmed. To find out more about Spark Métis, visit the BCMF website: https://bcmetis.com/spark-metis
