Vancouver, British Columbia, September 9, 2024 — The BC Métis Federation (BCMF) is proud to announce the completion of its 2024 Annual General Meeting (AGM), as well as announce the results of the election for nine director positions.
The 2024 AGM was held at the Parkside Hotel and Spa in Victoria on September 7, 2024. The day included an overview of BCMF’s achievements from the last fiscal year, a review of the audited financial statements, and presentations from staff on their accomplishments so far in 2024.
After the AGM, and thanks to the generous support of its sponsors, BCMF was able to celebrate its 13th year with a Métis Kitchen Party — replete with jigging, fiddle tunes and Bingo. Evening performers included “Karen Dion and Métis Bev,” “Spring Fever,” and “Rebel Heart.” BCMF congratulates the eight lucky Bingo winners who walked away with their shares of the $3,000 in cash prizes!
Eleven candidates were nominated to the BCMF board, and the results of the election are as follows:
Executive
- Keith Henry, President – Acclaimed
- Earl Belcourt, Vice President – Acclaimed
- Cindy Wilgosh, Treasurer – Acclaimed
- Jacquie Swaisland, Secretary – Acclaimed
Directors at Large
- Rosanne Forget – Elected
- Robin McLay – Elected
- Elizabeth Pearce – Elected
- Jordan Therrien – Elected
- Rene Therrien – Elected
In addition, the voting members present at the AGM passed Resolution SR-2024-1, which extends the director term from two to four years. This means that this new slate of BCMF leadership will be in place until the next election at the 2028 AGM. This will allow them to effectively oversee BCMF’s next strategic plan, presented in draft form at the AGM.
“I’d like to thank all of the members who came out to attend this important AGM,” said Keith Henry, BCMF President. “In particular, thank you also to all candidates who stood for elections. I’m looking forward to working with our newly elected Board of Directors toward the important goals outlined in our new strategic plan.”
BCMF would also like to thank the event’s sponsors:
- Riel level: Vault
- Dumont level: Enbridge and TL Housing Solutions
- Sash level: Cangas, Coastal Gaslink and TC Energy
- Friendship level: ATS Traffic, Kiewit, LandSea, Marwest, Surerus Murphy, and TransMountain
