Vancouver, British Columbia, November 30, 2023 — BC Métis Federation (BCMF) is proud to announce the successful wrap-up of a four-week, province-wide campaign designed to educate people about the history and experience of Métis people in BC.

The campaign, targeted at adults aged 19 and above in British Columbia, contained compelling and informative messaging. Messages and ads were distributed on the radio, in newspapers, in elevators, and on social media. The campaign website featured an interactive Story Map which describes “A Pacific Northwest Métis Presence” and a quiz, where participants tested their knowledge about Métis people in BC. Quiz participants were entered into a contest to win one of four prize packages from Métis-owned tourism experiences: Grape Savvy Wine Tours, Great River Fishing Adventures, and Sulphurous Lake Resort.

“We have so much to be proud of as Métis people,” says Keith Henry, BCMF President. “It’s important to highlight our important contributions to history and culture here in BC, as many people – Indigenous and non-Indigenous alike – may not be aware of the longstanding presence of Métis people in the province. Thank you to everyone who took the time to participate in learning about Métis history and experience in BC – these are important steps toward reconciliation.”

The contest received more than 4,000 entries, and the campaign ads were viewed or heard millions of times on social media, in newspapers and elevators, and on the radio and streaming audio. While the contest has now closed, BCMF encourages all members and the public at large to visit the MetisInBc.ca website to learn more about the history and experience of Métis people in BC.
