Federation Continues Métis Cultural Education

(North Vancouver, BC) BC Métis Federation continues to contribute Métis cultural education for elementary schools in British Columbia where requested. This last week Métis cultural sash weaver Mechtild Morin led a workshop in North Vancouver at the Sherwood Park Elementary School with over 20 Grade 2 students.

BC Métis Federation President Henry stated; “Thank you to Mechtild and her work with the students. The Grade 2 students appreciated learning about Métis culture and were active participants. Her approach with the students enabled the students to celebrate Métis culture which they know nothing about prior to this opportunity.”

BC Métis Federation President Henry concluded; “This is another example where Métis organizations have contributed cultural sharing without support. This was not as a result of a School District Aboriginal planned strategy and I only hope all elementary students in British Columbia receive these Métis cultural opportunities. We need to see a better approach in education in BC.”
