(Vancouver, BC) BC Métis Federation is releasing the April 1st, 2015 – March 31st, 2016 Financial Statements (unaudited) for the organization. BC Métis Federation operates as a non profit organization and continues to advocate, support Métis cultural programming, support industry consultation, provide policy leadership and various other activities for Métis members who have mandated the organization by being members or working with community organizations who have signed an agreement with the BC Métis Federation. Since the organization formed in 2011 one of the founding values has been to operate without debt or irresponsible financial governance.
BC Métis Federation is proud to release the financial statements for April 1st, 2015 – March 31st, 2016, 12-month fiscal year, which showcases a balanced budget with a small surplus. BC Métis Federation is also providing an additional appendix which confirms board expenses for the political and economic development boards. The budget forecasting and strong financial controls ensured responsible planning while maintaining community and cultural investments. BC Métis Federation President Henry stated; “I am extremely proud to show this transparency for members and partners. We have many requests and challenges to support members but our board continues to act responsibly and donates significant time and efforts to grow our organization.”
BC Métis Federation President Henry added; “The auditor Culver and Co. will have the completed audit done shortly which will verify our year end financial reporting released today. Thank you to our treasurer Betty Fisher and Office Manager Sherry Daniels for their countless hours of work on financial reporting and preparation for the audit. I am also thankful to donors, partners, and others who have invested in our vision for more effective Métis governance in British Columbia. We continue to gain community and member confidence as our numbers are increasing substantially and I believe it is through these best practices that we have gained support.” BC Métis Federation President Henry concluded; “It is no secret other Métis organizations do not truly disclose their financial information and are significantly insolvent with millions in debt. This has not changed for organizations such as the Métis Nation British Columbia (MNBC) or Métis National Council (MNC) yet it seems okay to ignore the financial challenges. By contrast I believe BC Métis Federation carries more public information and engagement while remaining solvent and financially healthy. I truly believe BC Métis Federation has been more successful with a fraction of the funding organizations such as the MNBC or MNC receive on an annual basis. Imagine what the millions of annual Métis funding could actually do if invested efficiently and effectively.”
