MACO and KANDU Serve Easter Meal to Vulnerable Community Members in Kelowna

Over the Easter long weekend, the Métis Association of Central Okanagan (MACO) prepared and served a hot Easter meal to vulnerable individuals at the KANDU Drop-In Centre in Kelowna, bringing food, community spirit, and cultural care to those in need.

KANDU (Kindness, Acceptance, Nurturing, Dignity, and Understanding) is a grassroots organization based in Kelowna. Their mission is to save lives and create cultural safety by providing compassionate, efficient, and spiritually inclined support to humanity. When KANDU reached out with a request to help provide something special for Easter, MACO stepped up in a big way.

Approximately 40 people were served a full Easter dinner, with leftovers available to continue supporting the community in the days following. Those who arrived in low spirits left smiling, laughing, and sharing stories with one another. The atmosphere was transformed—a reminder of the profound impact community support can have during difficult times.

Before the meal was shared, a smudge and blessing were offered over the food, grounding the gathering in Métis tradition and spiritual care. The effort was made possible thanks to a generous donation from Rutland Wings, who provided two large boxes of turkey breasts for the occasion.

The event is part of MACO’s ongoing commitment to supporting the community, ensuring food security, and promoting cultural wellness for Métis and non-Métis individuals alike. A sincere thank you to Brenda and Rick Bone, the MACO team, and Rutland Wings for their generosity and dedication.
