(Gibsons, BC) The BC Métis Federation continued their work with increased Métis community engagement and open Métis governance in Gibsons today. Vancouver Métis Cultural Society President Russ Roy and board members Judy Thibault and Ron Paradis arranged another meeting for their members in the Gibsons area.
BC Métis Federation President Keith Henry, Vice President Daryl Piper and Historical Consultants George and Terry Goulet attended and presented a history of the Métis in BC and provided an overview of the BC Métis Federation. There were a number of questions and some frustration discussed regarding the delivery of programs by the Métis Nation British Columbia.
BC Métis Federation President Henry stated, “This was another great community opportunity for VMCS members to get informed and ask questions directly from BCMF representatives. It was great to see new faces, and especially the children in the room. This is what we are all fighting for, their future.”
President Henry further added, “George and Terry provided important historical history about the Métis in BC. There was a keen interest and their information was well received. We are truly fortunate to have their work as recognized Métis historians.”
VMCS President Roy stated, “I am very pleased that the BCMF representatives took the time to attend and inform our members. I also appreciate the historical presentation from George and Terry Goulet. Our Métis history in BC is very limited and their work continues to be key to educating our people.”
President Henry concluded, “I want to thank Frank and Judy Thibault for opening their home to assist the success of this meeting. The BC Métis Federation has our board meeting next weekend on January 28th and 29th in Vancouver at the Coast Coal Harbour Hotel. We have arranged a meet and greet with the BC Métis Federation the evening of Saturday, January 28th and it seemed once again that people in attendance want to attend to celebrate our culture. There were a number of new BCMF membership forms signed up and momentum continues to build. Next weekend will be great to have everyone in the room together with the BCMF for a new future.”
