W.A.S.P Wildfire Home Protection Kits

In response to member concerns about rising temperatures and increasing wildfire threats—particularly in communities like Clearwater—the Conservation Department made the decision to direct 100% of donations received during the 2024-25 fiscal year to purchase W.A.S.P. Wildfire Home Protection Kits. These specialized kits are designed to provide critical support during wildfire emergencies, helping families protect their homes by setting up external sprinkler systems that create a barrier against encroaching flames.

BCMF & NTACCS Clearwater Wildfire Preparedness Luncheon

The BC Métis Federation (BCMF), in partnership with the North Thompson Aboriginal Cultural Centre Society (NTACCS), proudly hosted a community luncheon at the Dutch Lake Community Centre in Clearwater, BC, to announce a new wildfire protection initiative for Elders and families. The event celebrated a milestone in wildfire preparedness for the region and honoured the ongoing partnership between BCMF and NTACCS, which spans over 12 years.

On April 12th, the announcement of this wildfire program laid the foundation for the program’s rollout and demonstrated the power of community-led climate action. The event also included a special luncheon hosted by NTACCS to welcome BCMF staff, celebrate the ongoing partnership, and thank the local fire departments from Clearwater, Blackpool, and Vavenby, who were invited in recognition of their continued service and dedication to community safety.

The luncheon was an opportunity to deepen relationships, recognize frontline fire crews, and highlight BCMF’s long-standing support of NTACCS, which has included pandemic relief, youth and elder programs, cultural events, and environmental projects.
