(Vancouver, BC) The BC Métis Federation board members met on Thursday, April 26th, 2012 and during their board meeting made a few internal changes. Effective immediate Mr. Joe Desjarlais is appointed as the new secretary and Mr. Tim St. Denis as the new treasurer. These individuals will join President Mr. Keith Henry and Vice President Mr. Daryl Piper on the BC Métis Federation Executive Committee.
BC Métis Federation President Henry stated, “We have a great team of board members with tremendous talent. Joe is well educated and has a profound love for our community and our history. His passion is evident and he continues to take his rightful place as a leader in BC Métis politics.”
President Henry added, “Tim St. Denis also brings another effective leader to the Executive Committee. He is a professional in the health field and has served his professional practice through a number of governance related positions on a national executive. He is a proud Métis leader and I am so thankful to have him on our BC Métis Federation team. ”
President Henry further added, “The BC Métis Federation also appointed Mr. Ken Fisher as our Elections Commissioner. Ken has been a community leader for years and he has a thorough knowledge of running Métis community based elections. Our commitment was to have an elected board within 15 months from the date of our foundation last June 2011. As such Ken will work to developing a sound BC Métis Federation board member election process to be scheduled for September 2012. We will make sure our elections are transparent, fair, and democratic.”
President Henry concluded, “I want to thank outgoing BC Métis Federation Secretary Treasurer Mr. Russ Roy who continues to be a leader for his Métis community and family. Thankfully the BC Métis Federation has brought together an effective team of volunteers who each have diverse skills and abilities. Our new look Executive Committee will now support our board while we complete our regional meetings in May and prepare for our Annual General Meeting and elections in September 2012.”
