The BC Métis Federation was pleased to be invited to an event at the British Columbia Legislature where the Provincial Government announced B.C.’s new Anti-Racism Data Act.
BCMF Director of Research Joe Desjarlais attended proceedings within the house chambers and introduction of the legislation, and events including a reception with MLA’s.

BC Métis Federation Director of Research Joe Desjarlais attended a breakfast with Rachna Singh, Parliamentary Secretary for Anti-Racism Initiatives., Ravi Kalhon, Minister of Jobs, Economic Recovery and Innovation, Attorney General David Eby and others.
Desjarlais, who facilitated the recent BCMF anti-racism data collection community sessions, met the Premier as well as other ministers and thanked them for including Métis in this ongoing process. These events are an important indication that the province is serious about including all Métis in its move toward reconciliation. One of the reasons the government is engaging this topic is because ‘divisions’ and ‘differences’ have created a very uneven playing field for Métis peoples in BC and across Canada. These systemic problems have real consequences in the lives of people and must be understood and addressed.
