Marge Goulet resided in Quesnel BC and sadly she lost her fight with cancer last night. Our love and prayers are with her husband Romley where people admired their close relationship. Many in our Métis community, and within the BC Métis Federation, thought the world of Marge because she was such a kind and caring person, a woman of natural herbs and medicine.

BC Métis Federation board member Beverly Lambert stated. “I had the pleasure of speaking with our elder before she passed. Her message was that elders are not simply senior citizens and somehow defined by age only. She said a true Métis elder was a person who has wisdom and are the key Métis knowledge keepers . The rue Métis elders are the people who have lived off the land. Many elders do not have higher education but they have far more to teach the world than people in suits do. She spoke about the need for our Métis people to learn off the land and find peace with nature. She spoke about the need for our Métis people to take care of the Métis elders, we must look after them, remember to support them fully to travel and share their knowledge.”

Lambert added, “She was also grateful to the BC Métis Federation for our fight for honesty and would like to see us seek better health care and housing for Métis elders and all other Métis seniors. Marge spoke Cree to me and I did not understand but yet I felt comforted in the words she tried to teach me before she left this world.”

Lambert concluded, “Dear Marge please know our Métis people cared for you so much and we will be eternally grateful. Thanks for sharing your medicine gifts and especially your love for your Métis culture and Language. See you when we come home, peace be with you. God bless you on your journey.”

Further funeral details will be made available in the near future.
