BCMF Continues to Forge New Relationships

The BC Métis Federation continues to forge new relationships with local cultural heritage institutions. BCMF Director of Research Joe Desjarlais recently met with Heritage Manager Markus Fahrner and Executive Director Candrina Bailey from the Coquitlam Heritage Society.

Director of Research Joe Desjarlais stated, “I want to thank Markus and Candrina for their willingness to meet and for the tour of the Mackin House. We look forward to building a relationship with the museum staff and community in a good way to explore the long history of Métis presence in Coquitlam and a clearer understanding of the injustice Métis people faced.”

The nuanced and complex history of Métis in BC is just starting to come to light. It was apparent in this meeting that building relationships and seeking the truth about Métis in BC is a priority for all involved. This is a welcome change.

A new research website with a blog will be launched later this summer. Once launched, it will become your best source for information on Métis in BC. .
