Vancouver, British Columbia, August 18, 2025 – The BC Métis Federation (BCMF) is proud to announce that René Therrien, a respected Métis Elder, former BCMF Vice President and long-time board member, has been honoured with BCMF’s first-ever Lifetime Achievement Award.

At a gathering in Thornhill last night, BCMF President Keith Henry presented Mr. Therrien with the award in recognition of his decades of dedicated service to the Métis people of British Columbia. Alongside the award, René was also presented with a historic Métis capote to symbolize his lasting contributions to Métis culture and community.

“René’s leadership, wisdom, and unwavering commitment to our people have made an immeasurable impact,” said BCMF President Keith Henry. “It was my honour to present this recognition on behalf of our leadership, staff, Partner Communities, and members. René embodies the spirit of service, culture, and friendship that guides our work as a federation.”

René Therrien has recently stepped back from active Métis political leadership but continues to share his knowledge and passion for Métis culture. He remains actively involved in advancing Michif language programming and serves with the Skeena River Métis Community Association in Terrace.

BCMF extends its deepest gratitude to René Therrien for his lifelong dedication to strengthening Métis identity, language, and governance across British Columbia. His legacy continues to inspire future generations of Métis leaders.
