(Burnaby, BC) BC Métis Federation hosted their seventh (7th) Annual General Meeting yesterday in Burnaby with approximately one hundred (100) delegates and partners in attendance from across BC. The Annual General Meeting provided numerous updates and reports for members and partners from this past year. This included reviewing the 2017-2018 Annual Report, Audited Financial Statements, Knowledge Partnership Project, Reconciliation Project update, Child Welfare, Michif language, and other key priorities for the organization.

The other key outcome for the Annual General Meeting was the election of the board of directors/leadership for the next 2 years. As per the bylaw’s members elected the following:

• Keith Henry – President (re-elected)
• Rene Therrien – Vice President (re-elected)
• Joe Desjarlais – Secretary (re-elected)
• Betty Fisher – Treasurer (re-elected)
• Cindy Wilgosh – Director (re-elected)
• Earl Belcourt – Director (re-elected)
• Rose Bortolon – Director (newly elected)
• JJ Lavallee – Director (re-elected)

BC Métis Federation President Henry stated, “Thank you to the members and partners who attended our Annual General Meeting. By all accounts it was successful with people attending from Terrace, Prince George, Quesnel, Victoria, Vancouver, Surrey, Langley, and several other locations. BC Métis Federation celebrated Métis culture throughout the day and the meeting felt positive from beginning to end.”

BC Métis Federation President Henry concluded, “I especially thank our elected board for the next two years who have agreed to stand together to build our vision. We know that BC Métis Federation has made tremendous inroads with Government partners and we have continued to build an amazing future. I believe the members agreed which is why one again there was a strong mandate to continue with a consistent board while adding new board representative from Prince George Rose Bortolon. The future is bright, and I am excited to continue as the elected President.”
