SS Now in Ontario – Support for Métis Foster Family

Vancouver, BC – BC Métis Federation is reporting that one of our members of our Métis community has been moved to Ontario despite calls to the Provincial Government yesterday.

The Ministry of Children and Family Development (MCFD) continued with their plans to move Métis foster child SS from her Métis home in on Vancouver Island, British Columbia to live in a non-Métis home in Ontario yesterday. MCFD made no attempt to allow our Métis members/culturally adoptive family to say good bye to SS. BC Métis Federation President Keith Henry stated, “This is deeply disappointing and very saddening. I cannot believe this actually was allowed to carry forward. We know today that the alleged Métis cultural plan was not accurate and still the system failed our Métis child.”

BC Métis Federation President Henry added, “This situation now leaves more scars and several new victims. Our Métis family is deeply hurting and we must all do what we can to care for the custom adoption family of LM and RS for the years of love, care, and compassion they have shown with SS.” BC Métis Federation President Henry concluded, “Tonight I only hope and pray for SS to know she will always be loved in her Métis community in BC. We are going to fight to bring SS home, back to our community and I hope our members and friends will send the template letter we have put together to Premier Clark. We need to do what we can to bring SS home.” BC Métis Federation has posted the template letter here. We encourage all members and friends to send their support #bringsshome.
