Finding: Halfbreeds used as peace makers (1893)

Newspaper article reading "Metis Association of Alberta File 358 Volume 82-1893 Re: Half Breed Scrip.

This finding includes a record of a meeting of the Metis Association of Alberta in 1893. Scrip was the main topic of discussion. Also interesting is the description of Métis being used by the government and the Hudson’s Bay Company as peace makers between whites and Indians in intertribal wars. It states that “In fact, the police, with the halfbreeds help made it possible for a peaceful settlement.”
