The Wildfire Evacuation Expenses are not currently an active part of the Emergency Assistance Program
In past wildfire seasons, full BCMF members who had to evacuate their home community due to a wildfire evacuation order could apply for financial assistance to assist with Wildfire Evacuation Expenses (WEE).
2024 Wildfire Support
In May of 2024 in response to the deepening crisis in the Fort Nelson region due to the Parker Lake wildfire, BC Métis Federation (BCMF) expanded the Emergency Assistance Program to cover wildfire evacuation expenses.
The “Wildfire Evacuation Expenses” portion of the Emergency Assistance Program was available to full members of the BC Métis Federation who have had to evacuate their home community due to a wildfire evacuation order. Individuals could apply to receive $250 and families can apply to receive $500, and applications were considered on a first-come, first-served basis.
2023 Wildfire Support
During the 2023 wildfire season, the BC Métis Federation provided emergency assistance to members who were impacted by the wildfires burning in Kelowna, West Kelowna, and Lake Country. In August of that year, BCMF staff reached out directly to members in the affected areas.
