New storymap: Colville as a Bridge: Kinship, Movement, and Métis Presence

The BC Métis Federation Research Department is pleased to release a new storymap, Colville as a Bridge: Kinship, Movement, and Métis Presence. This Project was made possible in part by the Documentary Heritage Communities Program offered by Library and Archives Canada.

Tracing connections

The fur trade fort and settlement at Colville was a bridge between the Columbia River world and the interior routes into what is now British Columbia. This Indigenous corridor served both as a travel route and as a kinship space, where Métis and mixed-ancestry families built community over time.

The storymap traces these connections, drawing on the movement of people, families, and trade to show how Métis presence took root across the region.
